CONSTITUTION AND BYELAWS

Article I

    Name
    The name of the organisation shall be the Implant Research Group (IRG) of the British Society of Dental Research (BSDR)

Article II

Objectives

  1. To provide a forum for the exchange of interdisciplinary scientific information pertaining to implantable materials
  2. To provide an organisation for all scientists whose interests are related to implant research
  3. To facilitate the presentation, discussion and publication of scientific papers in implant dentistry
  4. To gain recognition for implant dentistry
  5. To assist the BSDR in developing its scientific programme
  6. To promote the advancement of research in the fundamental biology, chemistry and physics of implantable materials and host tissues
  7. To encourage the clinical development of implantology in all dental specialities

Article III

    Membership
    Eligibility

    Membership is open to any person who is interested in implant research

    1. Active Membership is open to any member of BSDR who has an interest in dental implantology
    2. Student Membership is open to any undergraduate or postgraduate student who is also a student member of the BSDR

Article IV

    Section 1

    The IRG shall hold an annual business meeting to coincide with that of the BSDR general meeting and shall provide its own programme as a part of that meeting, subject to the approval of the Council of BSDR

    Section 2

    Special meetings of the IRG may be held at any time and place decided on by the committee

Article V

    The Officers and Committee Members of the IRG and their terms of office shall be:

    Under normal procedure, a new Vice-Chairman/Chairman elect will be appointed following the retirement from the committee of the immediate past president, and will serve in that capacity for two years before becoming president.

Article VI

    Committee Meetings

    Any meeting of the committee must involve at least two of the three officers. The committee will meet during the annual BSDR meeting. It shall authorise all expenditures and take all reasonable steps to avoid indebtedness.

    A majority vote of the Committee shall govern, except where otherwise provided. They shall have the power to overrule or modify the action of any officer of the IRG. They shall receive reports and recommendations from IRG officers and others and shall submit to the IRG in regular meetings such recommendations which they have approved affecting the administrative policies or activities of the group.

    In the event of any vote resulting in a tie, the Chairman shall have a second or casting vote.

Article VII

    Membership Fees

    The executive committee will decide annually the appropriate sum to be levied as an annual subscription from members of IRG, subject to the approval of the Council of BSDR. No fee will be levied on student members.

Article VIII

    The BSDR will at all times operate under the rules and ordinances of the BSDR and will be s8ubject to the authority of the Council of the BSDR.

Article IX

    Nominations and Elections

    Nominations for membership of the Committee may be made by any member of the group, excluding student members, provided that such nominations are agreed by the nominees and are supported by one other member in addition to the proposer. Nominations must be delivered to the secretary, treasurer at least six hours in advance of the election proceedings. Election and installation of officers shall be accomplished during the general business session of the IRG at the annual BSDT meeting. Election of committee members may be by acclamation or by ballot, voted either separately or en bloc. However, any office involving a contest shall be voted upon separately. The candidate receiving a majority of votes shall be declared elected.

Article X

    Changes in the Constitution

    Recommended changes in the Constitution shall be prepared by the Committee, and will be presented to the members of IRG at least one calendar month before the Annual Meeting.

    The changes will be put into effect on an affirmative vote two-thirds of the active members present and voting at the Annual Meeting, subject to the approval of Council of BSDR.
